Smarter Control of Pumps, Fans and HVAC.
eMarine Control™ is a vessel-specific retrofit solution that continuously adjusts auxiliary systems to actual operating demand. Each installation is engineered for the vessel, integrated with existing onboard systems and monitored through eMarine Cloud.
Where We Reduce Energy Use—and Operating Cost.
Many auxiliary systems are designed for peak conditions but operate at full or unnecessarily high speed during normal service. eMarine measures actual demand and controls pumps and fans accordingly—while maintaining required temperatures, airflow, pressure and system safeguards.
Proven across cargo fleets, ferries and cruise ships — wherever pumps, fans and HVAC run on auxiliary power.
Technical principle
For centrifugal pumps and fans, a relatively small reduction in speed can produce a much larger reduction in power demand. This lowers the vessel's auxiliary electrical load, generator fuel consumption and operating cost.
All Cargo Vessels
Bulk carriers, vehicle carriers, RoRo, tankers, container ships and general cargo.
Cooling-water pumps, engine-room ventilation and accommodation HVAC are common sources of auxiliary energy use — and savings — across every cargo segment.
Ferries
RoPax, RoRo and passenger ferries.
High operating hours and variable passenger loads make demand-based control of pumps, fans and HVAC particularly effective on ferry routes.
Cruise Vessels
Cruise ships and expedition vessels.
Large HVAC and air-handling demand, combined with strict comfort requirements, creates strong opportunities through airflow balancing and demand-led control.
Typical systems we optimize
Cooling Water
Cooling pumps are commonly sized for high seawater temperatures and maximum machinery load. We regulate pump speed based on actual temperatures and cooling demand, reducing electrical consumption without compromising cooling performance.
Engine Room Ventilation
Supply and extract fans are adjusted to actual temperature and operating conditions instead of running continuously at fixed speed. This reduces fan power while maintaining the required engine-room environment.
HVAC
Pumps and fans are controlled based on actual thermal and ventilation demand. This reduces unnecessary circulation and airflow while maintaining stable indoor conditions and comfort.
The exact saving potential depends on the installed equipment, system design, operating profile and available control margins. eMarine assesses each vessel and prioritizes the measures with the strongest technical and commercial case.
Technical Example
Demand-Based Control of a Cooling-Water System.
This example shows how the eMarine Controller uses temperatures and operating data to control variable-frequency drives on seawater and LT pumps. The existing IAS remains connected for start and stop commands, interlocks and alarms, while operating data is sent to eMarine Cloud for monitoring and verification.
- 01
Measure Actual Demand
Temperatures and operating conditions are measured continuously at selected points in the system.
- 02
Control Automatically
The eMarine Controller adjusts seawater and LT pump speeds through variable-frequency drives.
- 03
Monitor and Verify
Operating data and system performance are monitored in eMarine Cloud with support from eMarine's Remote Operations Center.
Built with Proven Components. Engineered for Each Vessel.
eMarine combines its own control software and onboard engineering with established sensor, drive and automation technology. Components are selected and integrated according to the requirements of each vessel and project.

Jointly developed sensor technology for accurate measurement and precise control.

Variable-frequency drives for accurate and dependable control of pumps and fans.
Automation software and control technology for robust system integration and reliable operation.
Final equipment selection is based on the vessel, system architecture and project scope.
Engineering Improvements Beyond eMarine Control™.
eMarine also delivers targeted upgrades, balancing and integration services that improve HVAC performance, reduce energy use and provide better operational visibility onboard.
Rotary Heat Exchangers
Enthalpy wheels
We upgrade existing units to variable-speed operation or replace worn-out wheels. Replacement can typically be completed in service within one day, subject to access and project scope.
OutcomeImproved heat-recovery performance, lower HVAC energy demand and limited operational disruption.
Cabin Airflow Balancing
We measure and balance supply and extract air so that each cabin receives the required airflow. This improves comfort—particularly in crew accommodation—and can reduce unnecessary fan energy where the total airflow can be lowered.
OutcomeBetter comfort, more even temperatures and lower ventilation energy use.
HVAC Water-System Balancing
Chilled-water systems must distribute cooling evenly to all air-handling units and fan-coil units. Poor balance leaves parts of the system short of flow and can result in higher pump or fan speeds to achieve the required cooling.
We measure and balance the system so that cooling capacity is distributed where it is needed.
OutcomeLower pump and fan energy use, more stable temperatures and improved onboard comfort.
Chiller Integration and Performance Visualization
We integrate chiller operating data with the HVAC control system and forward it to eMarine Cloud. This creates a consolidated view of chiller status, loading and performance, supporting optimization, fault detection and continuous follow-up.
